About the Country
Kenya is a country of great diversity and spectacular natural beauty. Bordering the Indian Ocean in the east, with its white sandy beaches to the majestic Rift Valley in the West, the country encompasses lush grasslands, riverine forests, mountain highlands and moorlands providing an incredible range of habitats for the variety of wildlife. The word ‘safari’ means journey in Swahili and ‘going on safari’ was a concept conceived in Kenya and evokes the quintessential African safari experience. The Maasai Mara, known for its annual wildebeest migration and other vast plains bursting with wildlife and the predators they attract are the result of a 35 year ban on hunting. A very busy tourism industry means that a selective approach to a safari in Kenya is all-important!
